We chant the Hallel service about fourty times a year. It is perhaps the most jubilant and ecstatic section of the siddur and is performed during the most joyous points of the annual cycle. It is also perhaps the most rushed, abridged and/or neglected part of the prayer book. We will discuss its origins, hidden meanings and modern relevance. Examples from Sam Glaser's groundbreaking new Hallel CD will be woven into the discussion.
